Compare and Contrast – wes1 and wes2
The other Wes Moore is about two young black men who grew up in the same area and they had similar experiences and environmental influences, but they ultimately ended up on different life paths. Both, Wes1 and Wes2 experienced death of a family member. Wes1 experienced the death of his father when he was 3 years old. Wes2 experienced the death of his grandmother also when he was young. Wes2’s father was still alive but he wasn’t around. Wes2 didn’t have a father to count on; his father chose not to be present. Wes 1 and Wes2 were fatherless. The death of Wes1’s father and Wes2’s grandmother caused some chaos in each family. Wes1 didn’t have his father to protect him anymore. Wes1’s mother was more stressed because they started having more financial problems and also not having time to take care of the kids. Wes2’s mother lost support in the house and with her kids after losing her mother. Both parents of Wes1 went to college. Also, his grandparents went to college. His grandparents had decent jobs in the community. Wes1’s mom sent him to a private school for a safer environment, to keep him away from the streets and the drug dealers. Wes2’s mother also went to college. Wes2 went to a public school where he was participating in the outside environmental drug dealing, and where he also got arrested. While Wes1 was getting educated by his grandparents and mother, Wes2 was doing the opposite. Wes’1 and Wes’2 moved to different towns. Wes’2 was following his big brother steps by becoming a drug dealer. Wes1 got in trouble in school for painting the walls with graffiti. Not only in school, but their behaviors and choices differed on the outside as well. Wes1 liked playing basketball, and Wes2 enjoyed talking to the girls. Wes2 had a bad influence, which was his older brother, meanwhile, Wes1 only had good people around him to look up to. Wes1 grew up to be a Rhodes Scholar and business leader.
